The Pigments

Neutrals · Primary · Supporting

Roles before hues: parchment & ink carry every surface and word, amber is the single warm protagonist, Baltic the cool counterweight.

Usage — Ink 900 carries all structure and reading text; Ink 600/400 step down for secondary and metadata. Amber 700 is reserved for amber-coloured text on parchment (it clears AA); Amber 300/200 appear only on dark figures. Baltic grounds figures and the secondary action. Wax red is reserved for alerts and seals only — never decorative.

The Lettering

Fraunces · Spectral · Cormorant · Mono

Four voices, finite roles: Fraunces for display & headings, Spectral for reading, Cormorant for quotes, JetBrains Mono for the cartographer’s labels.

Vilnius rewards the unhurried. Cross the river into Užupis, climb to the bastion, lose the map on purpose. Each block is engraved with its own weather of light — and the parchment of the streets keeps every footprint warm.

Action hierarchy — one primary per view
Variants & states

Behaviour — the primary amber action carries the most weight; the cool Baltic save is secondary; “Cancel” is a quiet text button, not a competing border. Buttons lift up-left on hover casting a hard ink shadow, press flat on click, and show a visible amber focus ring for keyboard travel.

“I came for a weekend with a paper map and left with amber in my pocket and the whole Old Town memorised by light.”

Marks — every icon is drawn at a single 1.4px stroke weight with no fills, echoing copperplate engraving, and lives inside ruled cells like figures on a survey sheet.

Measure — spacing follows a finite nonlinear scale (4·8·12·16·24·32·40·56·72·96·128). Larger gaps separate groups; smaller gaps bind related items — external spacing always exceeds internal.

Hover · lifted

Elevation — a three-step offset-shadow ladder replaces the old ad-hoc 4–7px values. Depth is solid ink offset + hairline edge (flat-design depth), so every plate reads as pressed paper, and lift on hover signals interactivity rather than mere decoration.
